Nick Smith - Founder & Managing Director

Nick Smith is a 35 year old PE teacher who lives in Wyndham Vale in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Nick has played and coached football at all levels throughout metropolitan and country Victoria. He is an experienced AFL coach and has coached Under-16 development squads with the Western Jets and spent three years as playing coach of EDFL senior side Keilor Park. His 18 year playing career included a stint with Coburg in the VFA, as well as many league representative sides.

Nick started ELITE FOOTY SCHOOLS because he is passionate about assisting the development of the next generation of future AFL stars. He has excellent communication skills, a comprehensive understanding of all things football and loves working with kids.

Nick is married with two young children and currently teaches years 5-12 at Heathdale Christian College in Hoppers Crossing.

Simon Calbert - Coaching Consultant

Simon Calbert is a 28 year old PE Teacher who has spent nearly all of his life in the Wyndham area. Simon has played football for 17 years in both the FDFL and GDFL. He had an outstanding junior career, highlighted by his selection in the Western Jets u15 Doug Hawkins Squad and u16 Ted Whitten Squad. He also won several junior club best and fairest awards and played in numerous league representative teams. He went on to achieve similar success at senior level with Werribee Centrals, culminating in another best and fairest win in 2002 after finishing runner-up in 1998 and 2000.

Simon is currently a Grade 5/6 teacher at Bellbridge Primary School in Hoppers Crossing, where he has been working for four years. He has joined the ELITE FOOTY SCHOOL staff because he wants to see junior footballers get more assistance than he did between AFL Auskick participation and involvement in the TAC Cup development squads at u15 & u16 age level. Simon is great with kids, loves footy and is looking forward to joining those two passions together as part of ELITE FOOTY SCHOOLS.

Note: Both Nick and Simon are Level 1 Accredited AFL coaches, have current Police Checks and are registered teachers with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
